Explanation:
Enamel Processing (Minâ-kari), a handicraft form unique to Iran, creates colorful and shiny surfaces of metal objects with decorations made on baked enamel.
Enamel processing, also known as “miniature on fire”, which has developed since the Islamic period, is based on the decoration of precious metals such as gold, silver and copper with enamel paints. These enamel paints consist of metal-based oxides that are mixed with glass elements, applied to metal objects, and then baked.
In the first stage of enamel processing, the decorative object is given shape by the copper master. In the second stage, it is enamelled and painted with white glaze. The glazing step is done three or four times, each time using heat of approximately 900 degrees to set the color of the glaze. In the last stage, painting is done on the object, which turns white, and the object is baked in the oven again at a temperature of approximately 850 to 900 degrees.
